Smudging is the cleansing of auras and energies of a person or space. Light your sage and use the smoke around yourself, a person or space along with visualising the removal of stale energy, this forms the ritual of smudging.
Using a smudging tool is part of many Native American Traditions. The burning of herbs for emotional, psychic, and spiritual purification is also a common practice among many religious, healing, and spiritual groups. In theory, the smoke attaches itself to negative energy and as the smoke clears it takes the negative energy with it, releasing it into another space where it will be regenerated into positive energy.
When the sage is burned, it releases negative ions, which is linked to putting people into a positive mood. The Latin word for sage salvia stems from the word heal. Other qualities believed to be associated with sage when burned are giving wisdom, clarity, and increasing spiritual awareness

How to use your sage stick
1.Light the thick end of the sage and blow out the flame once it produces smoke. They are often quite difficult to light so you may need a few attempts.
2.Start at the lowest level of your home and work your way up to the top level. Start in one corner of the room and move the smoke in an upward motion. You can use a feather or your hand to fan the smoke.
3.Move around each corner of the room. Once you've cleansed the corners of the room, move to the centre and sage the rest of the room. Be sure to move the smoke around the windowsills and doorframes in the room that you're cleansing.
4.Once you feel that you've done enough in that room, it's then time to move on to the next room and repeat the steps above. As you're cleansing each room, remember to repeat your mantra as you move around the different areas in your home.
5.Once you're done in each room, go ahead and sage each entrance to your home. You can do that by moving the smoke around the doorframes.
6.You can also cleanse yourself, using your smudge stick, start at your feet and work your way up, visualising any negative energy and dispelling it.
7.The same process applies for cleansing your crystals, passing the sage smoke over them whilst repeating your intention.
8.Once you have finished your cleansing ritual you can use an old plate to dab out the sage, do not leave unattended unless you are sure it’s fully extinguished. You can practice this wonderful ancient ritual as many times a day or week as you please to help clear unwanted negative energy.
